Family and Heritage: Ayathan Alok was born in Calicut into the Ayathan family, an aristocratic noble family of Malabar that has played a significant role in Kerala’s history, especially in medicine, social reform, and education. He is the great-grandson of Dr. Ayathan Gopalan, who was instrumental in founding the Sugunavardhini Movement (1900), the Depressed Classes Mission (1909), and the founder, leader and propagandist of The Brahmo Samaj movement (1893) in Kerala. "ദർസർജി" എന്നും "ദർസർസാഹിബ്" എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന നവോത്ഥാനനായകൻ. Ayathan Hospital History

(Image of the old building of Ayathan Hospital) Ayathan Clinic & Dispensary was founded by Dr. Ayathan Gopalan at Calicut next to his residence as part of his social reform activities. He is the founder, leader and propagandist of the Brahmosamaj movement in Kerala. He established the first branch branch of Brahmosamaj in Kerala at Kozhikode in the year 1898. In the year 1900 he further extended his reform activities by establishing Sugunavardhini movement along with his wife Kallatt Kausallya Ammal. She was the backbone and the strength behind the Sugunavardhini movement. In the year 1924  Dr. Gopalan retired from the post as the Superintendent of Kuthiravattom Mental Hospital. He was the first Indian to occupy this post. Dr.  Ayathan Janaki Ammal  (1878–1945) was the first women doctor and surgeon of Kerala. She acclaim with the name and title as the first Malayali lady doctor and surgeon of Kerala. She is the sister to Dr. Ayathan Gopalan, renowned renaissance leader and social reformer of Kerala, founder of the Sugunavardhini movement (1900), Depressed Classes Mission (1909) and the founder leader and propagandist of Brahmosamaj(1898) in Kerala. She was born into "Ayathan" family (aristocratic family of Malabar) at Thalassery, as the daughter of Ayathan Chandhan and Kallat Chirutha Ammal. She studied at the Telicherry Elementary School, Mission High School and moved to convent school, Calicut.
