"Ayathan" is the family clan name of the great renaissance leader and social reformer of Kerala Rao Sahib Dr. Ayathan Gopalan. Ayathan Hospital History

(Image of the old building of Ayathan Hospital) Ayathan Clinic & Dispensary was founded by Dr. Ayathan Gopalan at Calicut next to his residence as part of his social reform activities. He is the founder, leader and propagandist of the Brahmosamaj movement in Kerala. He established the first branch branch of Brahmosamaj in Kerala at Kozhikode in the year 1898. In the year 1900 he further extended his reform activities by establishing Sugunavardhini movement along with his wife Kallatt Kausallya Ammal. She was the backbone and the strength behind the Sugunavardhini movement. In the year 1924  Dr. Gopalan retired from the post as the Superintendent of Kuthiravattom Mental Hospital.
